Well done, what an achievement. Good observation that the very people telling us to be less tribal and more authentic can’t help themselves but cram you into a pigeon hole.
We’ve bought the book. What you say here and there really does make us want to log off social media completely. Also to say it’s way way more than just your personal story. As you say, it’s stuffed with facts and footnotes that you’ve researched to show where the waves you were surfing and surviving came from. Well done. It looks like you can keep your balance whatever the waves throw at you.
Many congratulations, Freya! I am so pleased for you, and as you know, so grateful to you for doing this work. You are right – our modern world can't deal with nuance or complexity, or both/and rather than either/or. Please keep doing what you do – you do it so well. I have my copy and hope to read it this weekend.
Love your articles, the insight they bring to the male brain is truly appreciated, especially now that I am a father of a 6 mo baby girl. And so, are there plans to have the book published in Spanish anytime soon? I don't mind reading books in English, but something like this, I would rather read it in my own language to get everything right?
You go, show them! Shake off those labels on the dance floor at your book release after-party. Started following you after an interview where you said "I can not speak for policies since I do not know the potential consequences from them". That humility is so rare.
As for your little rant, agreed. Complexity conjured into simplicity is the tactic of the sophist Socrates warned us about 2 000 years ago. They use manipulation, persuasion and rhetoric to trick people into believing their lies to further their agenda.
Every time the media deals with something I know something about, I realize how fundamentally distorted it is. *Everybody* is scrambling for clicks, headlines, gotchas, and sound bites these days, all because of a broken business model. The only sane approach for a public person is to ignore most of it.
Humans love simplistic narratives, heroes to root for, villains to boo, a neat story tied up in bow.
Congrats!

Congratulations again on the book!

in Nature the progression is : infant-todler-girl-virgin-woman-mother-grandmother.
in society we have - infant-todler-girl-girl-girl-girl-girl-girl-death.
I love this – it is so true.
