10,000 Subscribers!

I can't thank you enough

Hi everyone,

I just want to take a moment to say thank you. This week GIRLS hit 10,000 subscribers, which I honestly can’t believe—especially since we were at 6,000 at the start of the year!

I don’t usually share milestones or talk about my personal life but this one feels very special to me. I’ve been writing since I can remember, and have spent a lot of time pitching to magazines about all kinds of different topics—but GIRLS is the first project I’ve felt deeply about. I started it a little under a year ago, as something on the side that I wrote in the mornings and evenings while working in a cafe, and didn’t think anything would come of it. To now have a community of 10,000 subscribers and see my writing resonate with this many people means so much.

It’s also a privilege to write about something I care deeply about. I really worry about how rapidly the world is changing and feel for the girls trying to keep up with it—and I know many of you do too. The more I research this, the more I realise how important this conversation is. I hope I can give it the justice it deserves.

I also want to thank you for all your comments—I love reading them! Many of them are so thoughtful and have genuinely moved and inspired me. My goal is to make GIRLS much more of a community this year, seeing as a lot of us share the same concerns about the girls in our lives and the pressure the modern world puts on them. I’m hoping to make the chat more interactive, creating a space where we can collectively share our thoughts and work together on finding practical solutions.

And lastly, to those of you who pay for a subscription: I can’t thank you enough. I’ve tried to keep as much of my writing free as I can because I think these issues are important to share, but I also need to make this sustainable for me. So this year I plan to invest much more in GIRLS and introduce a lot more paid content.
